Barnacle Labs Apologises for Not Sponsoring a Single AI Summit in 2026
LONDON, 29 April 2026
Barnacle Labs has issued an apology to the artificial intelligence events industry after confirming that the company did not sponsor, exhibit at, or send a delegation to any AI summit, expo, or innovation forum during the whole of 2026.
“We accept that this is deeply irresponsible,” said Co-Founder Duncan Anderson. “The AI conference circuit is a critical part of the ecosystem. Without firms paying £25,000 for a branded stand that three people visit, where would the industry be?”
An internal review confirmed that Barnacle Labs does not own a pop-up banner, a branded tablecloth, or a fishbowl for collecting business cards. The company has never produced a lanyard. No employee has been photographed pointing at a large screen while someone else pretends to look interested.
“We understand that conference sponsorship is how serious AI firms establish credibility,” Anderson continued. “We chose instead to establish credibility by building things that work. We recognise this is unconventional.”
When asked how the company generates leads without conference attendance, Anderson replied: “People ring us.”
Event organisers have expressed concern that if other firms adopted a similar approach, the £4.2 billion global AI events industry could face “an existential threat”. One organiser added: “We’ve sent them fourteen sponsorship decks. They haven’t opened any of them.”
Barnacle Labs has confirmed it does not own a branded polo shirt.
