Barnacle Labs Apologises After Client Reports Understanding Every Word of a Project Update
LONDON, 8 April 2026
Barnacle Labs today issued a formal apology after a client reported that they had understood every word of a project status update, an experience described as “deeply unsettling” by senior stakeholders accustomed to a different standard of communication.
“We take full responsibility,” said Co-Founder Duncan Anderson. “At no point during the update were the phrases ‘synergistic alignment’, ‘north star vision’, ‘unlock value’, or ‘leverage our learnings’ used. We recognise this left the client with an alarming sense of clarity.”
An internal review confirmed that the update, delivered via email, was four paragraphs long and contained specific information about what had been built, what was working, and what would happen next. It did not contain a RAG status grid, a risk register, or a single acronym that required a glossary.
“We understand that project communications serve an important function beyond conveying information,” Anderson continued. “They create a sense of complexity that justifies ongoing investment. By communicating plainly, we undermined that function entirely.”
The client has since confirmed that the experience of understanding a status update caused “temporary confusion” among the leadership team, several of whom initially believed the email had been sent to them by mistake.
Barnacle Labs has confirmed it will not be enrolling its engineers in a jargon training programme.
